The Golden Outback Region is steeped in history and the development of the wealth of Western Australia based on the rich mineral resources and farming. There may be long distances between accommodation and this is dry country, so plan ahead. Our western area supports extensive farms producing millions of tonnes of golden cereals for the world. A landscape of intriguing small towns each with it's own individual character and a silo. The agricultural based towns of Katanning and Narrogin are here as is Hyden where the frozen ediface of Wave Rock is found.
The remote Golden Outback North region extends from the iron-mining town of Newman on the edge of the rugged Pilbara. Drive the great Northern Highway southwards through Meekatharra and into the spring wildflower wilderness of the Mt Magnet and Paynes Find areas. Western Australias unique wildflowers are dependent on seasonal rain. Gold sustains these outback towns and 4WD heritage trails are being developed following in the tracks of gold prospectors and those sending wool or sandalwood to market.
The Golden Outback South includes Kalgoorlie, with its Golden Mile, Boulder and Coolgardie have wonderful wide main streets to allow the camel trains to turn in yesteryear. As you travel south the landscape reflects an increased rainfall and farming. Esperance lies on a magnificent bay bounded by golden sand and dotted with islands. Explore the national parks and appreciate some of the world's biodiversity hotspots.
East of here is the famous Nullabor Plain and the road to and from South Australia and the Eastern States.
