The hub of today's gold industry is Kalgoorlie where you'll find the Mining Hall of Fame and Museum. On the Golden Mile visit the Super Pit on the edge of Boulder and peer into its depths. Pioneer trails developed by our first entrepreneurs dreaming of gold, and wool and those seeking sandalwood, crisscross this dry land. The Golden Pipeline snakes along the highway from Perth to Kalgoorlie providing interesting stopping places in the wheat-belt towns. The wide streets of Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie allowed the camel and bullock trains to turn.
The town of Esperance is bounded by the sparkling ocean which faces the Recherche Archipelago and rocky headlands. It boasts picture-perfect bays with seasonal visiting whales. Take a cruise and explore the bays, or picnic on silver sands in a National Park where unique wildflowers and animals meet the sea. Explore the Pink Lake or wind farm.
Westwards this region embraces the golden wheat-belt and the telltale silos at every station. Granite outcrops, with their unique flora punctuate a flat landscape. Some take on amazing forms such as Wave Rock at Hyden with its Aboriginal legends. Katanning, Narrogin and Lake Grace are centres based on the local agricultural region and convenient stopping places whilst exploring the outback.
