Australia's South West
South West

Our South West is very different from other parts of Western Australia. Divided into four regions where in the cooler months (June-September) an increased rainfall promotes a lush landscape featuring myriads of wildflowers, native shrubs, tall timbers and pastures.

The Margaret River Region is bounded by the Indian and Southern Oceans and stretches from Bunbury, WA's second city, to Augusta at the mouth of the Blackwood River. This is an area of magnificent coastline proffering the sheltered sandy beaches of Geographe Bay to the wild and rocky vistas of the Cape. The townships of Dunsborough and Busselton face the bay and back the vineyards where Margaret River township stands. Golf courses abound.

Our Tall Timber Country lies east of the Margaret River Region and meets the coast at Walpole and Denmark, close to the Tree Top Walk. Explore this unique forest area of ancient trees near the coast. Visit Bridgetown, in the north, at the crossing of the Blackwood River, drive through Manjimup the timber center and take time out to explore many of our National Parks.

Traveling from Perth to the Albany Region you'll enjoy rural vistas, the Porongurup and Stirling Ranges and the township of Mt Barker. Albany was settled around a magnificent sheltered harbour and has a special place in Australian history and is a magnet for visitors. Our spectacular coast provides wonderful experiences and is visited by whales.

The Southern Region lies to the east where trees give way to shrubs and drier country. Here there are huge rangelands and cereal growing. The roads to Esperence and the east lead through here.
